Butare (Alaria esculenta) can be used for various food products such as. “wakame”, the salad eaten for sushi. Cultivation of butare will provide predictable quantities and a predictable and high quality of the raw material, which can then be processed into wakame and other food products for sale.
This can thus form the basis for a completely new marine bio-economic value chain, based on sustainable production of a healthy seafood product with great commercial value. Seaweed cultivation and production of food products will be able to create new jobs and increase value creation in the blue part of Central Norwegian business and industry.
